| Altar Tools: Is Expensive Necessary?
So the question every young witch asks at one point or another is: Do I need to have Expensive Altar Tools? The answer to this question is No. You do not need to have a laundry list of expensive tools to practice the art of Witchcraft. Tools are really focal points for directing energy. Although it is nice to have some more expensive tools for a more flashy and "realistic" experience it is actually not necessary at all. Remember that the energy comes from you.
So are there substitutions for tools? Why yes there are. You can also make your own tools which will be noted in the following list.
Athame: butter knife, pocket knife, athame made of bone/wood/metal that was handmade.
Wand: Handmade from metal or wood, can be carved out of a crystal, harvested branch from a tree.
Cauldron: Pot or kettle for a stove (remember to keep oils minimal if you plan on using these for food later)
Libation dish: saucer, small bowl
Chalice: A plastic cup, coffee mug, clay cup you make yourself
Book of Shadows: A Notebook or binder
Bell: can be made yourself or you can go the cheap route and hit your local dollar store/ flea market/ bargain outlet.
Altar Table: a milk crate, tv tray, lap top stand, the floor, a stump or large log from a tree (remember to smooth the surface a bit)
Not everything has to be flashy or long and drawn out. Sometimes simplicity is best.
