Quote
"The path of the Shaman is a lonely one. You are privy to knowledge of worlds and concepts most people don't even believe exist. They'll think you're crazy when you talk of your work and passion, but you aren't, they just don't understand the world as you see it. You're special and you should be proud of it." -Birch of Many Paths

The path of the Shaman is often very lonely and demanding for those who are called to it. Today’s illness and disorder centric society is quick to refuse the acceptance of multiple Realms and layers of reality and slap a psychiatric label and prescription
to anyone who challenges its closed minded views. Along as having to endure sometimes very frightening and unexplainable visions or knowledge, the afflicted also endure a loss of self-worth by society telling them that they are abnormal or wrong and need to be punished
with threats of hospitalization and medication.

It is said that a shaman, during initiation to the path especially is assaulted by revelations, visions, and is able to explore the vast depth of the Realms and experience higher collective consciousness. Revelations such as these are guaranteed to make the person
experiencing them view the Realm and the others differently. The heightened awareness and sometimes complete immersion in the other Realms can cause fear and sometimes hinder day to day
function on this Realm, and because of that, is labelled abnormal and
in need of correction.

Many Shamans and labelled schizophrenics alike can be extremely introverted and not always aware or willing to follow this society’s social conducts in terms of personal identity, appearance or behaviors. The afflicted commonly live in a discontinuous reality where realities and Realms overlap and perceptions, social behaviors and even ways of communication vary from what is commonly known, due to the constant bombardment of visions, messages and ability to see and interact in the different Realms and layers of reality. Communication with deities and other entities is very common and many of the messages received are very symbolic and have deep mystical and spiritual undertones.

A lot of mainstream psychiatry functions on the basis that there is only one reality, and anything varying from the common shared perception of what reality is, is considered abnormal and the persons thinking diseased or disturbed. The medications they shove down the throats of the Gifted block their abilities to astral project and interact in the other Realms and layers of reality, often causing the afflicted to become numb, depressed or even hostile in some cases.

It is another common misconception in this society that anything that is uncomfortable or unpleasant to face should be either stopped or fixed instantly. This automatic reaction from our instant gratification oriented society is exactly the thing that stops our constant spiritual evolution and causes stagnancy in social conduct, ideas, spiritual consciousness and awareness. Many Shamans initiation experiences have been very unpleasant and even horrific, often said to mimic a death experience, whether that be physically, mentally or
spiritually.

Schizophrenics and Shamans share a lot of traits in common because what society likes to mislabel as schizophrenia, is actually the Shaman Sickness. It is a burden and gift that many Shamans share and have to experience sometime during their lives. It is important for
people who are not affected with the Shaman Sickness to be understanding that the afflicted are not always thinking and functioning on the same vibration or frequency as most others do.
Many Shamans find that a cure or understanding of the Shaman sickness comes from accepting that they are not abnormal and diseased, but gifted and are honored receivers of messages from the Primal Ones and other entities. Acceptance of the Gift and answering the call to walk the path of the Shaman has been noted too often help alleviate any fear or uncertainty from the visions and revelation, and help those with the Gift be able to work in harmony with their ability and be able to gain a better understanding of the visions and experiences they receive.

The spacing keeps messing up for some reason, even after I correct it. Sorry for any inconvenience in reading that it causes.
